XPpro sp2 not detecting the Card reader

I can confirm that it used to work, but recently hte last few months it hasnt, and each time i rebuild it sometimes see's the drives but wont display them in the My Computer screen.

What can i try? The card reader an In-Win CR-i530b is getting power and is found in the bios!

But i cant access it once the OS has booted up!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

newest drivers? USB? I've had problems with usb devices not being recognized, but have always been able to disconnect them from the computer and reconnect and they work fine afterwards.

You also might want to try a full uninstall and reinstall in windows.

Hi Shane,

Thanks for the clarification. the card reader does not need drivers in XPpro.

I am thinking more and more about a fresh install of XP.

i've seen this problem occur when something else has grabbed the drive letter that the card reader used in the past. i was able to fix this by manually assigning a drive letter in control panel / administrative tools / computer management / disk management.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say it's no longer in the disk management section. Do you see something like "Disk 3 Removable"?

What i mean is that the card reader used to be recognised correctly as 4 'removable drives' but right now, only the Bios can see them, they no longer are visible in the disk management section. Disk management only shows the HDD drives and the DVD burner.

For some reason, 'My Computer' says there is a floppy connected but, there isnt one at all.

I had the same problem. I rebboted my computer and selected "reset configuration" in my BIOS. I then restarted Windows, and things worked fine.

I am having the same problem as GLO with my SIIG internal card reader. Problem started after I updated my Asus board to the newest firmware. I am gonna subscribe to this thread hoping that a fellow here would be able to help out.

@GLO: Wish you the best. Keep me updated.

Also, in my Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, I have an Unknown Device (but it does NOT show with a question mark icon, but the USB icon).

My Computer doesn't show any of the 2 Removable Drives as it used to work. No idea what to do.

Legacy USB support is set to Auto (which enable as needed). This thing uses USB 2.0 by the way. Reset to default option in BIOS doesn't help either.

i did a full re-install and it appears to have rectified the problem.
i still have to install all my other software to see if it corrupts later!

I had this problem also, the solution that I did was to roll back the drivers for the card reader. This has worked for me on two computers running Win XP Pro SP2.
