Agreed. You need to be sure your motherboard detects it first (it should show up during POST; if all else fails try to boot from it) before you even worry about what Windows is doing.I agree, most likely hardware problem. Check all cable connections first. Try different DVD drive next.

No DVD drive shown in MY COMPUTER....read several threads on this none have helped.
Anyone got a sure fix for bringing back the DVD icon in my computer?
DVD door does open manually. Unable to play any DVD's as yet.
