Thanks to the Sony hack incident that has given a lot of fodder for gossips.

Sony have been refining their elements and I think they are getting there. They have the best battery management in Android world in my experience and it makes sense going against Samsung which provide removable batteries in their flagships. Waterproofing has been Sony's trademark as well, although it is a question mark whether the Z4 will keep the tradition going. No words about other central specs in this leak, such as SOC, display size, or cameras.

Xperia Z4 details emerge out of recent Sony Pictures hack

I like the color shown in the pic. Nice change in a time we are exposed to way too many B/W, R/B/G, and Gold.

Wasn't sure if the thread was intended to be a joke or not. :p How long will it be before people start claiming Sony doesn't innovate enough. Took about 4 generations of near externally identical Galaxy S devices.

When you have an established brand you do not change it radically unless something is obviously not working and you feel obligated to change it radically. Instead you do incremental improvements.

And when I am referring to brand I am not referring to sony but instead the line of product which in this case is the "flagship phone" that is not a phablet and not a compact.

Forget all that.
If the Z4 or Z4 ultra looks anything like this picture, then I will be first in line to get one.
The Z4 ultra looks impossible to produce but man I would salivate over a phone like that.

Ooh I do like that Z4 Ultra render...too bad it's a render, I doubt there's room for actual speakers in those bezels unless it's a (relatively thick phone). Besides, there isn't enough room for Verizon to plaster logos on the front.

The Z4 looks fairly believable though. I think I want one...though I do like my Z3.

One thing i'm wondering is when Sony's going to provide Qi charging capabilities built-in, it's got to be easier doing that than waterproofing their magnetic dock connector.

Not just impossible to produce, but impossible for any case to be designed for it. IMO there's a minimum amount of bezel on the sides that's necessary for proper use, and that's a little too far. Having top/bottom bezels that small would be sweet though

I hate people who do these unrealistic photoshops and concept drawings. Let me just stretch the screen out to all the edges, shrink that logo down so its unreadable and voila.

People who think that art becomes before engineering/practicality are annoying.

Annoying but crucial to the advancement of mankind. If we didn't dream there would be no progress. Besides, engineers have a way of making these things happen anyway. They say they can't do it then they do it.

They could produce the Z4 in that picture easily but the reality is that it will look just like the Z3 again which I will pass.

Shrug . . . Apple and Jobs built a widely successful business doing exactly that; form before function.

The renders of the Z4 Ultra looks silly. It'd be a pain to use, not just impossible to actually manufacture. The vanilla Z4 render doesn't look too bad though.

Going by my Z3, I think Sony's really dialed in on the hardware front. Time to work the software angle.

impossible to use/manufacture, you say?

(yeah, the sharp aquos crystal has a large bottom bezel.... maybe eventually we'll remove them)

I look forward to the day where we can have minimal bezels on all sides of a phone. At least eliminate the side bezels, the top and bottom should only have just enough bezel to fit stereo speakers. That would be perfect to me. One thing I've always disliked about Sony phones is the top and bottom bezels are always too big on their phones, so if they can change that I'd be happy.

Its silly for people to say that phones need a bit of side bezels for the phone to function.
No you don't. You can still slap a case on that and it'll still be fine.

How are you going to attach the screen to the phone then?

Until you realize that your palms would trigger the screen with even the slightest wrap. And probably crack at the slightest flex in the pocket too.

. . . Following this logic: The next big gripe would be a wave of people complaining that their phones require cases to be used. Even if you're okay with ghost touches all the time, some bezel is required to mount the screen.

Recall when people complained about the bezels on the Nexus 7s and Kindle Fires? Then realized that they function as grips for the hands when holding the device.

That assumes that the phone doesn't have proper palm rejection, which is highly unlikely.

How would it know? If I hand my note 4 to somebody without a case and ask them to hit an icon in the top left with their right hand, they'll end up hitting something near their palm as it wraps around. As far as the phone knows, that input was what you wanted... How can you program something to know the difference?

This already exists in some phones and tablets. I'm not sure of the specifics. But I'm guessing it's able to tell the difference between the smaller contact diameter of a fingertip and the broader surface of a palm or side of thumb.

I understand how it works when you're using a stylus, but in the situation I described it can't know. The Note 4 has palm rejection when you're writing and it works great, but it doesn't apply when a small part of your palm hits the screen when you have to reach. The Note 4 has pretty slim bezels but they aren't super slim, so I can't imagine dealing with a phone with even smaller bezels. There just won't be any way to use it one handed if it's a decent sized screen.
