One of the tablets costing twice as much as the other might possibly be a pro or con somewhere. :)

Though you'll probably want a Windows 8 tablet if you need a laptop replacement.

PS. Personally instead of paying $1000 for a Surface Pro, I'd go with an Android tablet (Nexus 7 or 10 perhaps) or iPad and a cheap Windows 8 laptop.

My best advice is to wait until Computex and see what is on the horizon. Haswell and revised Atom should really improve Intel based mobile products. AMD might even have something worth considering, and there could be some interesting ARM stuff as well.

If you need it right now, then eh whatever your needs are more. If you need more power get Surface Pro, if you need battery life then get the Xperia.

Well if it's got to be a single device that is your tablet and laptop and it's just between these to devices and apparently money not a concern, the Surface Pro is a no brainer.

I love Android, but when it comes to tablets, I'd rather have an iPad, because Android isn't even that great on a tablet, much less making it a laptop replacement. I tried this with an ASUS TF300 and the keyboard dock, was just so restrictive and I was just running into too many things I needed Windows apps for.

Surface Pro looks like a nice device. But I think the price is a bit rich. So if you want a cheaper alternative, I'd probably look at the Lenovo Tablet 2. I wish it was the tablet I had bought. I already tried the Samsung 500T and the ASUS ME400 and both were rather mediocre.
