XPC SN85G4v3 and Mobile Athlon 64 3000+

Lower power consumption (thus lower heat output and quieter system) of the mobile chips is my main focus. Combined with the fairly affordable Shuttle SN85G4v3 (also want a lightweight desktop I can move around easily), I thought this would be a good idea.

If the core of these mobiles are ClawHammers, shouldn't they be similar to the desktop ClawHammers (which are about $100 more)? If so, should these mobile chips not beat the Newcastle series on the 754 socket (1MB L2 compared to 512k and about $20 less?)

One of my main concerns, however, is whether this chip would even work on the system. I heard a few people had to manually set fsb and multipliers, which is fine with me. However, the main concern is whether the HSF would even make contact with these mobile chips.

if you want REALLY low power consumption and less heat, get one of the new lancaster- or newark-core mobiles. these are 90nm instead of 130nm. their power characteristics closely resemble the new venice/san diego cores. they're SLOWLY replacing the 130nm mobiles in retail. DFI motherboard BIOS have unofficially supported these new cores for awhile but you'll have to check for compatibility with your 754 board's BIOS.

lancasters: don't know where to find these ATM

this heatsink will work with the mobiles without modding:

hope this helps!
