XP64 will not boot with Ati drivers installed!

This probably belongs in the OS section, but this area is a lot more frequented so I posted here instead. Forgive me.

I installed XP64 (again) since I was in need of a reformat anyway, and I am having the same problem I had like a year ago. Ati drivers prevent XP64 from booting up. I get a bluescreen right before the desktop appears, and I have to go into safemode and remove them to get into windows. I am installing XP-64 onto nforce4 raid, and I believe I read somewhere that there was a compatibility problem, but that was over a year ago, so I'm hoping that isn't related. Still, why havn't they fixed this problem yet! I'm using a different video card, and a different sound card, and I have dual-core now, and still I have the same issue.

I have this idea in my head that it is related to either Creative or nVidia nForce drivers, but... I have no evidence.

Any ideas?

Ive been trying tp install a x1300 ati card for months with no luck. Getting ready to do my second rma on what was a brand new card. This is the second computer Ive tried this card in and no luck. My msi nvidia card works fine but ati no luck and ive tried everything. So Ill take any suggestions as well. I see the preboot win xp screen and then nothing reboots and reboots. I can use a generic vga driver to get into wondows but thats it.

I asssume you are using XP64 too. My card works just fine in XP32... what are your system specs?

Athlon64 X2 3800+ @ 2.5GHz
DFI nF4 Ultra-D
2GB Mushkin Black @ 500MHz
Radeon X1800xt 512MB
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music
Fortron BlueStorm 500w PSU
2x 80GB Hitachi SATA II in Raid-0

No issues like that here in a previous XP64 install. I re-installed XP 32-bit for other compatitibilty reasons.

Question(s):

1) Are using the drivers with the CCC?
2) If so, which version of .net are you running?

IIRC, you have to run .net1.1 with XP64 in order for the CCC to work correctly...

I have tried both with and without CCC, both cause XP64 to crash before the desktop loads. Also, this PC already has the latest windows updates and stuffs. It doesn't make a difference.

I have had zero problems with a X1800XT, and now two X1900 with x64 XP. I have the Asus A8R32-MVP. Also had a A8N32-SLI with the X1800XT, and one X1900.

That link you dropped, has a user with .Net 1.1. Not that it should make a difference, but I believe ATi suggests you use 1.1? I noticed you both have DFI boards... which are pretty picky. I know mine sure was.

Yeah sounds like ATI driver issues. I'd move to Nvidia, no CCC and better support in Linux as well as Windows. Not to mention an overall slicker driver interface in most peoples opinions.

Oh, good call Crusander!!!.....Geez man, give it a rest.

However, I will say, thou plenty will refute it, that ATI have ALWAYS been poor driver writers, HELLO!!! They still cant get OpenGL right.

The x190 series is excellect hardware thou..Allegdedlly
