xp3000+ and high temps...help

something is very wrong with my computer, it is just acting weird all together...i think it has to do with the temps...

right now i am sitting here, just on the net and msg boards, idling at 67 degrees or so...isnt that hot as hell???

i have this feeling my voltage is too high or something...
i have on an aftermarket arctic silver cooler with 3 fan speeds using arctic silver paste, so this thing isnt on stock cooling...

i am not overclocking, i am chilling at 2157 mhz...
what am i supposed to have the voltage at and such?

there isnt anything hot in here, no overclocking, a passive cooled gf2 for some testing, and one 7200 rpm hard drive and ONE dvd/burner combo drive. what the hell is wrong with this thing?

could idle temps like that be the reason why i am crashing out of games and such after a few mins of playing? please help

Yeh that's hot. My XP3000+ idles at 56C and people will say that's too hot, also it's overclocked to 2450MHz. The max temperature for this chip, ie. there temperature it should die at, is 85C and I can imagine you must hitting somewhere near that under load.

Did this suddenly start to happen or have you always had this problem and if it suddenly started what did you do before it did.

What do you have the voltage at now, if you're not overclocking there's no need to go above the boards default.

Yes, this is probably why you crashing out of games.

i have no idea what my voltage is at right now...how can i check? in bios, everything looks to be set at default.

Chip is designed to run up to 90 degrees C.

67C is still too hot. I would make sure you didn't put on too much heat sink compound, and see what your voltages are at.

Hehehehe mine has been running at 70 for years now, poor thing

i just changed out the thermal grease, i did have too much but not TOOOOO much, put it all back together, and right now i am idling at 64, still around the same. voltage seems to be normal, vcore is 1.62 right now and it jumps up to 1.67 now and then.

Yeah, the temp could do that. Also, your vcore s/b at least 1.65v. A lower than spec vcore could also cause the problem.

As fas as heat, check your case airflow, cable management, look for/clean out any dustbunnies etc.

At 1.65v, your idle temp is way too high IMHO.

yeah that seems to be too high, re-install the cpu, you don't need a lot of paste, just scrape off the rest with a card

i'm idling at 49 in a hot room at 2.55@1.875 volts

Have you dusted out your case recently, if you used to have lower temps that have risen give that a shot, you should probably do it once every 3/4 months.

the case is clean as it has been used for 4 days or so now, the cables are straight, no dust, there is not a lot of paste on the hs/cpu area, just enough to do the job

wait a sec guys

some motherboards don't report temps properly

which one do you use? and does your heatsink feel hot when you touch it? it should or else it's not seated properly

also what's the exact model of your cooler?
