** XP2800+, XP3000+ to sport 333 FSB and 512K L2 Cache..

Chipsets from Via like the KT333 now, Nvidia Nforce 2 chipsets, SIS and additional Via chipsets including the KT400 and the KM400 will all support the 333MHz FSB.

So.... my incoming KT333 chipset will support this? Wooohooo!

Barton will definately be my next upgrade. Both the 333Mhz bus and the 512k cache are improvements enough over my T'Bird that it can be justified.

Bring it on!

I agree...sound nice, but how many times does the enquirer have to get things wrong before we stop trusting these guys....

The 512kb cache will give it a bit more boost then the fsb since many are showing it not as being the big performance improvement as one would think with the 333fsb....Should definitely be competitive with the p4 3.06ghz due out in Oct/Nov time...

Hope it comes true, but I wouldn't count on it when it is reported by these guys....

We ought to start a thread of the enquirers more recent debactles in journalism....

Where has the Inquirer goofed up recently? They were reporting that AMD would go to a 333MHz-bus processor before anyone else, and other sites like XBitLabs were casting doubts on them for it, but it turned out the Inquirer was correct, as we now see.

We know Barton is coming
We know 333Mhz is coming

So it's not a case of 'if', more like 'when'.

I am anxious to purchase a new computer, but am trying to hold back for a few reasons:

The Barton, which supposedly is supported by the KT400 chipset, which has 512k cache (like the Intel Northwoods), and the 333MHz bus.

The NForce 2 (although I just bought a Radeon 9700 Pro - wouldn't that be suicide, using the Readeon on an Nvidia board?)

And even on Intel's side, the new processors which support Hyper-Threading.

I am very confused but I think that waiting for some of this to materialize will be in my best interests.

Hopefully it will be as simple as unlocking & bumping up the multiplier. Since a 333FSB isn't that great of a performance jump I'd like refrain from upgrading my PC2100 ram & KT266A mobo as long as I can.

I wonder of the Barton XP's will work in an MP configuration...

That's something that I wish I could slide under the door at AMD.

Barton... Northwood... Barton... Northwood... Barton... Northwood
It's too much to deal with! 😀 Oh the good old days of the Pentium 200.
