XP2700 Temperature

Hi everyone,

I think my XP2700 processor is running pretty hot. It idles at about 57 C... i don't suppose this is normal, or that it is good for the cpu. Or is it? I haven't even tried loading the machine.. but i'm guessing it'll probably hit around 65 C load. However, i thought that the bunlded hsf that comes w/ the processors are supposed to be good enough. Can someone possibly explain to me why, in my case, it appears that the hsf isn't adequate?

Another thing, i have a 350W High Power PSU. it's not a super brand name like ernemax or whatever, but it is recommended by AMD. the voltages are about +/- 0.2 and one is +/- 0.3 (except the 3.3V, that is around 3.28)... is this too off? or is it ok?

Did you use a thermal paste or thermal tape? If you used tape, did you remove the protective coating first? What kind of airflow system do you have in the case?

Don't worry about that temperature. 57C is not high for the cpu. My 2700+ is reading 54C right now.

 
really? THAT high? on another site.. it said that the stock hsf with the xp2700 maxes out at around 55 C, and idles at like 45C.... i just thought there's something wrong w/ my setup considering my idle is that article's setup's max.
also... my mobo temperature is at 45C is that ok too?

one last question is... can those slight deviations from the voltages on the PSU be the cause of the high temperatures? or what i mentioned should be ok? thanks a lot.

The tempratures you get are dependent on several varibles. Like ambient room temprature, airflow in your case, etc... That is why yours vary from the temps on that "other site".

Right now my XP1800 is idling at 51°C with stock HSF. (Idles around 47 in Winter months) And has been for nearly a year now. On summer days it will get up to 63°C under full load. I've only had a system crash twice since I've had it, and that was due to a network card that suddenly went bad.

Unless you are overclocking don't stress so much over your tempratures. Yours are fine for using the stock HSF.

And its also perfectly normal for voltages to fluctuate. Voltages will change as loads on the power supply change. Its the nature of switching power supplies 😀 As long as all voltages stay within 10% of actual you are fine. Also, the voltage reading hardware on motherboards is never very accurate. A $15 digital multimeter is going to show more accurate readings then your mobo will give you.
 
Also some motherboards intentionally inflate the temperature readings in order to show a more realistic value. Comparing your temperatures to a review site or someone else is really pointless unless you are using the same mobo, same case cooling, same room temp, etc. My dual XP1800's idle happily at around 54-degrees. Doesn't bother me.
