xp2500 retail hs/fan

If upping fsb to 200mhz using crucial pc3200 on an abit nf7-s inside a stock case, should I get better fan or hs or are the ones that came with the retail package good enough?
Thanks.

The retail HSF will work if you replace the included clod of phase change goop with a good thermal compound, but you will see better temps with a higher quality HSF.

For example, I got 45 idle 51 load with the stock HSF and 37 idle 42 load with a Thermaltake Silent Boost at 200*11 speeds.

The stock temps were using the glop AMD put on the HSF, not anything like Arctic Silver, you may get somewhat better temps than I got.

just to add some more number to the thread...with the retail hs/f and Arctic Silver 5 on my 2500+ i get 39C idle, and 44C under load at stock speeds. At 2000MHz (200fsb x 10), i get about 41C idle, and 48-49 under full load.

The HSF reviewed in the overclockers.com article is not the HSF fan that comes with the 2500+.

The current HSF is from AVC and is very similar to the AVC #112C83: in the review.

Anyone know what heatsink & fan combo is generally being shipped with something like the XP2600+ Barton?

Cheers,

Jamie

I would have to imagine that it's the identical hsf, Jamie. Why wouldn't it be? They're only 66mhz apart (before we overclock them, anyway!).

i would think getting a better Heatsink will be a better idea in anycase.
but stock should be able to handle it ... if u dont mind higher temps
