xp2400+ recomend a MOB

My existing mob is having problems wit xpsp2 pro so the path of least resistance is just to replace it. Any advise on a mob for my xp2400+??
 
Take a look at either the Asus A7N8X series or the MSI K7N2 series. I have worked with both and they have provided a fast and stable platform.
 
I have this MB for my daughter A7N8X-X seems to work good but (checking manual) I have it with a Sempron 2800, It says for memory that it suports 64 Bit, but my MB says it suports 64 Bit and 128 Bit, does anyone know the difference ?
 
I have 2 different MB from Asus. Asus A7N8X Deluxe and the Standard Asus A7N8X Ultra 400 model. Both are running great. Asus also makes a board without the Dual DDR Asus A7N8X-X. My son is using an ATI 9800 All-In-Wonder on his with an old 1.2G Athlon processor. We wore out one XP2400. I have an XP2800 on mine.

There are probably plenty of motherboards that will work based on the Nforce2 Chipset. Gigabyte may have an economy based motherboard. MSI and Abit probably also make some boards for that. Just stay away from Via Chipsets.
 
For my server machine I use an Asus A7N8X - Deluxe, which I just picked up a few days ago, on one of my older systems I have a MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR. Both of these are great motherboards but I am pretty impressed with the Asus A7N8X - Deluxe features and performance.

128 bits means dual channel. 64 bits is single channel.
With dual channel, your memory transfers information in 128 bits chunks versus the 64 bit chunks that single channel transfers. It essentially doubles the bandwidth of your memory.
 
does frys still have those m/b cpu combos? probably more cost efficient.. used to be around 60-70 dollars. buying a mb for an obsolete cpu isnt cost effective.
 
the biostar m7ncd pro with nforce 2 chipset has served me well for a couple years of 24/7 on as a server machine.
 
Asus A7N8X-E - nice rock stable rig BUT you need to check that your existing memory is compatible with it. Like most modern dual channel mobos, it's VERY fussy about memory and timing.

Have built 3 Socket A systems with this board. 2 with barton 2600's and 1 with a 2200. Have not had a single problem with them.

No, but I did build two computers with a A7V-400MX, and it was a solid performer for integrated video / sound / LAN - that board is MicroATX, but it still does the job pretty well..
 
Yeah, they both have the same Southbridge, and the A7V8X is ATX, so they will be about the same. I used to avoid VIA like the plague, but they are starting to gain my trust back 🙂
