looking to finally upgrade from my xp1900 - i got a epox 8k3a, 512mb corsair xms 2700, asus gf4 ti4200 128mb, WD cavier 80gb SE, enermax eg651pve psu, win XP
and the whole rig is water cooled (dual pump/dual rad)
would like the 333 fsb of the 2800 but not sure on the eta of the chip. also i'm not sure how well the xp2600 o/c's any ideas
i got 300 squids to spend so any suggs would help

My vote goes for the 2400+. On my Epox 8K5A2+, I have my 2400+ running 2.2ghz, 210mhz FSB, 1.65v (default)... You Epox 8K3A should easily hit 166mhz FSB and above..

🙂

i'd wait till better steppings come out, why not get a xp 1600 from newegg and just crank the fsb up to 166? thats what i did, and you can't beat ~$50 for a 1.743ghz processor on default voltage

the t-breds still have not matured enough to consider it a good overclocker.

save the money, return you 4200 and get a radeon 9700, you'll see higher fps from that than an extra 200mhz in cpu speed

check out my rig, it chokes even with 166 fsb in ut2k3 with a gf3 ti200 oced @ 1280X1024 32bit color

also if you want a faster rig, get U160 and a 15k HD !!!!!!!!!! 😀

it really improves performance in disk related tasks, going from 10krpm scsi to 15k rpm got me an extra 10fps encode speed in dvd ripping 🙂
