Hey guys, looking to quiet this system down cuz it's relatively loud.. Running a cheap compusa hsf combo right now and well, it's just loud for me anymore.

The system has never been overclocked and will never be overclocked. Looking for some suggestions on the quietest solution for a relatively minimal investment. Any suggestions? I've looked around svc.com a bit and found some quiet products but really don't have any experience with any of the products so I'm kinda in the dark. I've tried searching and reading a bunch of articles and mainly just get hit with a ton of good choices, however I don't really know which one to choose. I'm looking for something in the $25-30 range.

Thanks for any help you can lend..

Well, how loud (in decibels) is your current fan running at?

Since your not OC'ing the 2400+, you don't really need the best and greatest heatsink out there. However, I'd recommend a good, quiet 80mm fan like the Panaflow L1A.

Here are a few I'd recommend for a non-overclocker:
Speeze WhisperRock @ Newegg (I've never used it, but it's got great user reviews and is fairly quiet)

GC69 @ SVC (use the Panaflow L1A above if the included fan is too loud for your tastes)

Both of the above options should be $20 (or less) shipped to your front door. Personally, I'd probably go with the GVC+Panaflow, as it will probably be slightly less quiet than the Speeze. If your current HS is sufficient and can use a 80x80x25mm fan, then you may be able to order just the fan.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look at what SVC has to offer. I've ordered fans and cables from them before so I'll do a bit of looking around. I really couldn't tell you how loud my current hsf combo is, but my god it's loud. It runs in the 5400rpm range and is a 60mm fan, I figure probably mid-high 40's to low 50db.

not sure on what the prices are for these in USD$, but...

the Thermalright SK7 is a very efficient heatsink that you can combine with an 80mm Panaflo L1A (maybe even the next quieter fan model!) or a low rpm Papst (more expensive though).

I think the Thermaltake Silent Boost looks like a very similar design, and most reviews compare it to the SK7+L1A (IIRC, the fan actually is a modified panaflo L1A, turn it around and the sticker even says so) - this might come in cheaper.

Possibly also worth having a peek at your motherboard manual to see if it has any features for slowing down fans when the CPU is cool, e.g. Asus' QFan. Speedfan may also be able to do this for you, if your motherboard is suitably compatible. Of course excercise caution while doing this and make sure to monitor temps yourself until you're confident all is OK.

Check out the Spire Whisperock IV from kdcomputers.com. very similar to the speeze whisperock, but having a copper core and triple tab clip-

The advantages of triple tab clips can't be overstated- they're well worth the small extra charge...

You do need to be sure there's room on your board...

man, thanks for all the great suggestions.. I'm gonna check all the clearance on my motherboard to make certain what will and will not fit properly.

I'm running a EPoX EP-8KHA+ if anyone already knows from this board what will and will not fit properly.
