Gigabyte Board (latest firmware & supports the new processor) that had an XP1700+ Just got an XP2100, slapped it in and it will post and when the system is very cold, like turned off overnight, I can even get to my desktop in the morning but locks up quickly. Usually after a reboot or two I can't even get to the windows splash screen before it reboots on its own. All connections on the board are tight, cards reseated just to be sure and all power connectors are firm. I can put the 1700 back in there and all is well. The 2100 does post as that (Athlon XP2100). I am thinking voltage change but wanted some advice before I go get the motherboard PDF and try to find the jumpers. Can't change the voltage in software. Here is my BIOS hardware monitor information.

VCore - Normal ( this has various settings +7.5, +5.0 and +10 changing this does not change the other data numbers and has no effect on the problem)
Temp is good or at least it seems to be. This chip runs much cooler than the 1700 even after sitting there for 10 minutes.
CPU Temp---------------58/136
System Temp-----------28/82
Vcore---------------------1.728
VTT-----------------------+1.216
+3.300V-----------------+ 3.248V
+5.000V-----------------+4.838V
+12.000V---------------+11.840
5VSB---------------------+5.053

The +X.XXX numbers seem to fluctuate but not much. Slight changes as you sit and watch it. Most of that is greek to me. Anyway, I am not uncomfortabe with my case off. More of a network guy but got an A+ so fiddling is not a problem. Case cover pretty much stays off but Processors are not my gig. Is it the Vcore I need to change? What would it need to be for a XP2100 on a KT266 board with DDR PC-2100 RAM (512)? Or did I just perhaps get a bad chip. That would piss me off but I can exchange it if I do it in the next 10 days or so. Any help would be greatly appreciated or any other information I need to give, lemme know. TIA

From those two things I think you have a heat problem, but that's just my guess.
What heatsink do you use?
I don't mean to ask a dumb question, but are you sure it's on correctly? I put one on sort of wrong once and I had some real high temps. It's hard to explain, but I had it so the step in the bottom of the heatsink didn't match the step in the socket. The heatsink was only touching a small part of the core of the CPU. Once I put it on correctly the temps dropped quite a bit.
Are you sure your power supply is powerful enough? Maybe the extra juice required for the 2100 just isn't there.
I would not change core voltage at all. It should run stable with a stock voltage.

yeah, I am starting to think Power supply. The 1700 runs much hotter idle so I really don't think that's it but i am certainly no expert on that. It does seem my 1700 would have had probems though because it does run 15-20 degrees hotter. At least at idle. Anyway, the chip's on fine. and the sink is the same one that came with the 1700 as well as the stock fan. I have an extra fan on the Vid card so I may start unplugging and pulling cards out to see if I can reduce power consumption and see if that helps at all. Thanks.
