XP2100 Tbred revB can i reach 166 fsb with this cooling ?

here is the road map i have for the comp
Motherboard epox 8rda+ 109 newegg
CPU athlon 2100xp revision b 93 newegg
Memory Corsair XMS PC2700 CL2(x2) 146 googlegear
Videocard ATI 9500 PRO 185 allstarshop.com
Hard Drive Maxtor 40 gig 7200 87 newegg
Heatsink Vantec Va4-C7040 29 allstarshop.com
Casefan Thermatake smartfan 12 allstarshop
Case Antec slk2600amb(300watt) 59 amatteroffax
TOTAL 720 shipped

my plan is to overclock the 2100 from 133 fsb to 166 fsb to match the
memory
or should i lower the multi to 12.5 ? or 12 ? as to not generate more heat ?

do you think ill be able to overclock it to 166 fsb with the vantec ? ive never really overclocked much
i overclocked a celeron 400......but that was years ago things change

i would love any advice at all
thanks much

the vantec was one of the top coolers in this review on Tom's Hardware.

you might have to boost the vcore for any overclocking.

Let me make this a nice and simple overclocking guide 🙂
Drop multiplier as low as it will go (I believe the higher tbreds unlock all on the 8rda)
From here, push the FSB up a bit at a time until you can no longer boot into windows (with a low multiplier, it will most likely be the memory that will be crapping out)
Drop back some on the FSB and run memtest to find out if the memory is ok at the settings (you also might want to get into windows and run some memory intense programs)
Now you found the maximum FSB on your memory. From here all you have to do is push your multiplier up one by one.
When you cannot boot into windows at stock voltage, push the vcore up a setting.
Now it becomes a choice between how high you are willing to push your vcore and how high you want your clock to get.
Remember, just because you can boot up into windows you may not be running stable. Most likely if you were unable to get into windows before, upped the setting by .025 and got in, you will probably still have to up it some more to get it to run prime for at least 6 hours.
You can also up the vdimm on the memory in order to get it to run at higher clocks with tight timings. You get more performance from a higher FSB and lower mult at the same speed with a lower FSB and higher mult.
You might be wondering how high is high for a tbred b 0.13 process. In order to answer this I ask the Tbred b overclockers in this forum to post what they are running theirs at and what they have is high for their vcores. 2.0v is a little high from what I hear.

You should be able to hit 166 FSB no problem! I just got an XP2100+, week 49 and it hits 166FSB at the highest multiplier available without modding the CPU (the default 13X). I'm running at 13X 166FSB (~2150 MHz) at stock voltage! It gets into windows at 180 FSB (2.35 GHz @ 1.75 V) but crashed in a 3d game - probably from the high FSB causing high PCI/AGP speeds... I need a nForce2!

i've got an old socket 7 mobo (the classic Asus T2P4) with the FSB @ 83 netting a PCI bus speed of 41.5 (1/2 FSB. stock is 66MHz FSB) w/ no issues. seems like your increase of 3-4MHz or so shouldn't be a problem . . . at least w/ the cards (sound card, network card, video card (yes, pre AGP days!)). the chipset . . . maybe they're not as robust as they used to be?

166 is no big deal. I have an AGOIA XP 1600+ (Palomino) that I ran at 7.5x186 for a while (1.85v), just with Crucial DDR 2100. Ran a month or so without any problems. Now I'm running it at 10.5x162. Ran fine at 9.5x180 but had a habit of corrupting system files and forcing a re-install, so I dropped the FSB a bit after 3 forced reinstalls.

Tbred should be better than Palomino, so I wouldn't anticipate any trouble.
