xp1900 hs/fan for athlon 1.3

Bought a athlon 1.3 and tried running a alpha 6035 heatsink and its running hot 64c. Can I try my stock xp1900 hs/f?

They're compatible. Be aware that the stock thermal pad on a retail AMD heatsink isn't meant to be re-used, so make sure you have some good-quality thermal compound on hand.

The 6035 is a very good heatsink, could it be the older variant with the weak clip, and isn't overcoming the cornerpads on the CPU and making good core contact (the older clip has a semi-circular pressure point instead of two 45-degree anglebends)? Is it on in the right direction (stepped edges over the cambox and lever of the CPU socket)? Thermal compound? What kind of fan?

Yes it was the older clip. Im currently using the xp1900 fan on the athlon 1.3 and its running a bit hot. With the case open its at 56c. It was never used so it had the rthermal pad still on it. Should I remove the pad and just use compund?

There is a range of "normal" temperatures depending on the motherboard, but overall I wouldn't worry at 56C unless there were signs of instability... just my 2c worth. I'd let it ride with the stock thermal pad since it's already on there, unless you want to overclock, in which case some good thermal grease might give you more headroom.

edit: typo!

Thanks for the quick reply. I took off the thermal pad and used thermal compound. Its now running at 51c. So ill keep an eye .

those thermal pads on the stock heatsinks tend to perform better over time. seems that a few days of steady heat on them improve the contact. I am using one now that i installed 4 days ago and it is running about 5c cooler now than the first day i installed it.
