is it worth extra $15-25 for XP1800 over 1700?
Also, the retail versions come with HSF right?

One last thing, how much difference will i notice with 1800 over 1700 when doing dvd rips and making divx movies?

1700 is obviously more bang for the buck, and 1900 is WAY too much over 1800.

But i'm wondering if there isn't much difference at all between 1700 and 1800 then i'll just save me $20 and get the 1700.

I'm upgrading from 850 Athlon Socket A on a GA-7DX ver2.2 mobo. i'm upgrading so i can convert my DVD's to divx avi's faster and edit movies faster also.

Any other things i can do to speed up this process please let me know.

Thanks dudes/dudets.

i don't think it will be much of a difference. most people would go for the xp1700+. i've asked quesions like this before and they gave this same answer.

yup, just go with bang for buck, paying more for tiny speed boost is a waste with this kinda stuff. save it towards a later chip upgrade:p

Just get a 1700+ and overclock it. That is what I got for my nephew when he needed a computer, and he loves it. The difference really isn't worth paying for. I went with a 2000+ for my own rig, but that's just because AMD gave me one free. :D

At this one store, 1600+ prices dropped a little bit more last week. 1700+ had the value crown for a week or two beforehand, but 1600+ is the value king again :)

I got an 1800+ for free beforehand (the 15 city XPP events). It was worth a lot beforehand, so I managed to sell it and pick up a 1600+.
