hey guys
I have installed Volcano 7 with my XP 1800+
I've used arctic silver III in between them
from what I've read after 2 days the temperature is supposed to drop some after as3 bonds and stuff
my comp has been running idle at 39C constantly ever since I put it together and the temperature hasn't dropped at all
the volcano 7 spins on ~3000rpm

is that normal or I did something wrong....
thanks

I dunno if your temps are supposed to drop after some time, but it's very probable that your thermistor is not touching the bottom of the cpu and so is not able to notice any temp differences.

yeah it's connected to powersupply over 4 pin connector

the yellow wire for rpm count is connected to the motherboard

I am just assuming that no matter where the temperature is being measured (whether it reads correctly or with some errors) it's still supposed to drop according to arctic silver site

Hey man that temp isnt bad at all! Turn her up a bit :) U can easily pull a 1800 up to a 2000.

Great selection on the motherboard - my friend bought it for his and I love it (Im the one who tweakz his stuffs)

I know it can do more but I am not into that

it became wayyyyyyyy to complicated to overclock a cpu
with all this unlocking and crap like that

that thing is just too damn small that I would go and mess around with the bridges and stuff like that:)

but good idea though:)

Your temps look good. If you want more top end cooling you can mod the fan a little by relocating the thermistor to the space between the fins instead of on the outside. I went for that option rather than clipping the thermistor and hardwiring the fan to full speed. It's still quiet and I get more RPM's at lower temps. It stays at 37C - 39C but will climb to 42C under heavy gaming. I can live with that.

Relocating the sensor is easy. Remove the fan and take a very small screwdriver or other sharp object and separate the thermistor leads from the power leads. Then, push the thermistor down between the fins and apply a small dab of glue to the leads near the fan motor to keep it from hanging by the leads alone. You'll see once you get it apart.

I will add this: I've got some pretty good ventilation so my results may be better than others. Not bragging, just a fact that I discovered after spending another $100 for a new PS with dual fans. Really sucks the heat away from the HS. Temp difference between the case temp and HS temp is usually no more than 5C.

Either way, it sounds like you are in good shape. Nothing to worry about unless you just want more cooling.

Good luck.

if you guys say the temps are ok I am fine with it:)
the max it went under rempg2 encoding load was 43C
I am just used to 32C idle on my p3-900:)
thanks
