hi all i just finished putting together my comp... and i have a GC68 with stock fan on it and some AS-2 .... but i am only running at 133x10.5 and my temps on the cpu are 50!!! C...while my case temp is 31-32 degrees....so what do you guys think.... should i just get a faster/louder fan and put that baby on the GC-68 HS or get whole new hs/f? i am currently thinking of a 48 +++ CFM fan....

my friend says that it is the heatsink and less of the fans problem....thanks!

Probably a combination of issues. A nice big AX-7 would let you put a little quieter fan on (80mm) and still get great cooling.

Which mobo do you have? Many mobos read CPU temps differently. For example, my Shuttle reports a temp of around 38C for my cpu, but when I tried an Epox 8K3A, my temps were in the 60s.

I have an Epox 8k3a... and it reads my temp at 51-55 when i run at 1600XP.....and when i tried playing a FPS game.. (jedi2) it froze on me!... and i rebooted the comp to check the temps and it was at 60 degrees!... so that means it must have been around 65 or so.... i wanna run below 50degrees...but when i feel the heatsink it isnt that hot.... weird... i guess ill try the AX7 with a high cfm fan...

nah, you dont need more fan... you need to goop your cpu better. my xp 1700+, when i first built it, idled @ <40C. then i removed the hsf for shipping and replaced it later. after replacement, i idled at over 50C.

basically, ive discovered firsthand that arctic silver is VERY finicky... as i found out here when building a p4 system. so i think that before you rush out and spend $30 on a bigger and louder hsf, you should first reapply arctic silver (follow the instructions on their site to the letter!) once or twice to see if you can get it to improve.

hmm... though if you want to overclock, you prolly should get a bigger hsf anyway so nm! ;)
