Heres the system im putting together:
Tyan Tiger MP
4x 256mb registered ddr (crucial of course)
Enermax 431w

Its going to act as a dedicated coutnerstrike server -
The Tyan doesnt support multiplier adjustments, and I dont want to mess with the bus speed. However, I would be inerested in overclocking (yes, i know this will require the cutting of some of the bridges). At the same time, I dont want to adjust voltages whatsoever.
From my understanding, the XP's overclock better, but its harder to accomplish.
The XP's are $24 more than the TBirds. What do you think is a better option for me?

Tyan doesn't officially support anything but MP chips. Also, I wouldn't be dropping this much hardware for a system dedicated to CS. You could run a 1ghz (or XP1600+ if you want) with 512MB RAM and SCSI and it would be kickin. Of course, your connection means the most here. But don't waste all that money, it won't be used. I run a CS server with 700mhz Duron, 256MB PC100, 1500/300 Cable modem and 15GB IDE and it's fine up to 14 players. If I had a nice connection I could pull 26-32 easy.

it depends on where you look to buy, but XP's are more like 10$ max over a 1.4 266/FSB T-Bird, go ahead and get the XP, it'd be worth it........ i was faced with the same question a few days ago, i feel the XP is worht the extra money

Oh and I just read somewhere that a guy was having problems with crucial RAM in a Tyan board. I think someone said it isn't supported by Tyan either. Oh and one more thing, I believe Tyan boards must have a special PS (maybe it's just the Thunder though).

Actually, I run several CS servers off a phatty connection.
I'm looking to run ~8 16player ones off this machine
The Thunder is the only one that reuires the special psu.

Its not *that* much money since I'm upgrading my old system (Sale of old one should bring in some cash).

Edit: Oh, and the problem they were having was beause they werent using registered ram, which is req'd if you use more than 2 sticks.

and that $24 price difference is for a pair.
