There is an auction: XP1600, AGOGA Stepping. The problem is... the seller says he doesn't get the CPU to work on his board, but that would be because its a non XP compatible board. On the picture there are no visible damages, but the quality is not that good anyway. He sells it as defect... what do you think? Its extremely hard to get a CPU with a specific stepping. So as a defect CPU the price should be pretty low.
First question: Does the AGOGA overclock well (FSB 166 is my aim, the other components should be a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP and GeiL PC2700 CL2 RAM)?
Second question: Do you think its worth the risk? Which price should I stop at?

Here's a link to the picture, maybe you'll see more...

better make sure the chip itself isnt bad (i once killed my first processor: Tbird 1.2Ghz from static electricity).

I have an AGOGA 1800+ which i have yet to unlock, and buy the Chaintech 7VJL so i can REALLY venture into overclocking (ECS K7S5A right now), but i hear the AGOGAs will do 2100+. Should be small beans with a 1600+ (low multiplier).

if you trust it, go for it.

but whats the price?

thx, anyway the auction is over long time ago already. Well, that was the problem. I couldn't check if the chip is bad, all I had was the photo. He was selling it as defect... so that he doesn't have to take it back.
Unlocking... well, I prefer not if possible (don't want to spoil these expensive things :) ).

I think the 1600 ended for 40? for a eventually defect CPU... and after that the same person set in another auction with the same context. So I really wonder if that guy was serious. So, luckily I didn't try it :) Maybe I'll just buy a normal XP1600 and if I don't like the stepping I sell it on eBay as new :D . Might get some more money.
