I've got a 3500+ NC on a SLI-DR overlclocked to 255 x 10, 200 fsb and I got it stable 21 hr plus on water set up. I wanted to do away with the clutter and put the xp120 on but to no avail I have not been succesful on the transition. Water temps would idle at 48 to 50, with the xp120 its up to 60 and when I ran prime 95 temps wet up to high 70's. I have the system on a open bench type case, so air circulation is good. Help anyone?

Did you apply the thermal paste right? What fan are you using?

The only things i could suggest are:
1)Use a more powerful fan, like one of those Vantec Tornado's.
2)Have a desk fan or similar blowing air over the whole set-up. It's not really in a case, is it?...
3)Reapply the thermal paste if you did it wrong the first time.

If none of this helps, i guess you'll have to go back to water cooling, or reduce the overclock...

Thanks for the reply guys, I always follow the suggested procedure from the AS5 website for the proper amount and instalation. I got a Panaflo with the xp120 and even have it set it running to the max. I have a 120 size fan blowing at the heatsing\k area about four six inches away.
Algere thanks for the linky on lapping. You know I have tried four different brands of heatsinks for this system and I have never achieved below 45 degrees temp. I had high hopes for the xp120 but I guess it does not work for everyone. I am about to go back and set it up again for my water cooling and hope to achieve the desired temps, right now.

Just got done setting up the water cooling, 255 x 10, 200 fsb at 1.61 vcore idling at 42-45 running prime 95 and temps at 60-62 tops. Will run it for at least 8 hrs just to be sure everything is back the way it should be. I think this 13nm 939 is running hotter than my Prescott. I had it set up similar, the only difference is the water block, at 1.6 it was idling at 40 and 42 at the most while under load at 55 and 58 at the most. Only problem is I tried to get more out of it and I think I managed to kill my p4c800e dlx.

The Xp-120 cannot be mounted properly on the Dfi Sli-DR!! How did you get it? It's the heatsink base properly fixed to your Cpu core?

I moved the fins and please don't ask me how I did it. I just did not want to spend the RMA shipping so I modified it to go over the slot #4 on the mobo. I think I still can use it on the DFI board for my prescott that is on the mail.

How is that you moved the fins? You cannot move the fins unless you break the heatpipes!! I am afraid you have broken the XP-120 heat dissipation system with no doubt...that's why you do not show us the rest of the photo, you have done an odd job)
I think you should have sold your XP-120 and buy a Xp-90 instead of breaking the XP-120. There is no solution for the mess you have done. You have to buy a new heatsink or your Cpu will die in a short time.

If you're talking about the pic I linked, it's not mine. FYE here's another pic.

seriously, it fits, no doubt about it. anyway, ive heard a lot of reports of xp-120 having a very rough contact, and lapping is often neccessary.

Madmax23, after carefully inspecting the fins and the pipes I am positive that it is not broken in any way. After doing some comparisons on three other hsf, I am inclined to the conclusion that this particular cpu runs hot. When I had it run at stock speed the temps would be at the mid to high 30's. Now when overclocked at 255 x 10 with a 1.6 vcore only the water set up can control the heat that it generates. I was just through a 9 hr plus prime 95 with the water setup which I could not achieve with any of the heatsinks. Still trying to tweak the vcore a bit lower but for some reason it will not pass 4 hrs below 1.6. Oh heck, I rounded the fins with the end part of my 3/8 drill bit from the fourth fin counting from the outside to accomodate the Corsair and it sat perfectly over it without contact.

Will try today Mad...I work away from home for five days and I can only play with my systems on the weekends. Will take pics with the digital camera and hope I know how to post them.
One progress I did though is that I brought my two waterblocks with me and I had them lapped, a 939 and a p4 block. It was'nt easy doing the sanding but I did both the blocks and they look so good. I got a drop of 6 degrees for my 939 block and so I think that is worth the shoulder pain for sanding. Will try and do the lapping on the xp120 today.
