Hi guys,
Haven't been around for some time but then again I always come back for knowledgeable information
I just did a fresh windows install on my new computer. Some specs of my rig:
Asus P6X58D Premium mobo
Intel i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07 Ghz
Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
Corsair dominator 6G DDR3 memory
HP lasterjet 3390 printer (on my ADSL modem, shared over the network)
Zebra LP 2824 printer (on USB port)
This system is great (fast, fast and smooth) compared to the older HP DX2300 computer I had in my office, but now the problem.
Whenever I open Word it does not open. I think that it crashes, same goes for the Zebra printer software (Zebradesigner).
At the moment I have narrowed the 'culprit' down to the spoolsv.exe file (and I think splwow64.exe). If I close down the spoolsv.exe file (in taskmanager) I can start up word and zebradesigner just fine, but then again I can not print.
Both the laserjet and zebra printer work just fine if I do test prints.
I tried deleting the spoolsv.exe file and replacing it with a version that runs on the 2 other HP computer on the network, but windows keeps replacing the spoolsv.exe version that seems to be causing the problem. This is kind of strange though because I think that I've deleted all (in the dllcache dir).
At the moment I'm thinking about returning to 32bit. What do you guys think?
I've gone with XP 64bit mostly because of my memory. I was told 32bit would not fully use the 6GB I have.......
Thanks,
John
