In XP I have it set to not prompt me for a password when it comes back from standby, yet it always does. I also have do not hibernate set, yet The hibernate option is still on there. Any one else have this problem? It's a relatively fresh install, less than a week old. I've installed from this same disk before and never had this problem.

You might want to make sure you don't have hibernate set in the bios.

What about Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced tab
Uncheck "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby"

That's the same dialog box that pops up when you hit the power button in the screensavers tab after I right click on the desktop..

My whole problem is that that box is not checked. I have even had it checked for a couple of days, then I unchecked it. Just to see if it would do it. It is still prompting me for the password, and I cant understand why. I did the same thing with the enable hibernation thing too. left it activated for a couple of days then unchecked it. Right after I installed the OS, those are some of my "standard" customizations that I do.

The worl... er, registry is a large place ;)

You can use the search function, or click your way through it.

I'm glad Linux doesn't have a registry :p

two places need to be set, the first is in power options\advanced\ in the control panel, the second is in the screen saver tab of display properties, the check box for "on resume, display welcome screen"

both need to be unchecked for it to not go to the welcome screen if any screensaver at all is used before standby

Llike I said to btvillarin a few posts up, it's the same box. if you go to the screensaver tab, hit the power button under the screensaver selection, it launches the same applet. If you check it in one, it checks it in the other. I just selected the option in the desktop hit okay, went to the CP and it was checked there. I unchecked it and then went back to the desktop one, and it was unchecked. Thanks though. :)

Turn of apm (advanced power management) in the bios. That should/may take care of things with hibernate and maybe even the password issue.
