Try enabling power management in XP & your bios.

And / Or you may also need a bios update.

Or you may have a program thats not closing correctly when you try to shut down, try hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL b4 you choose to shutdown & close all programs running in the backround one at a time & see if you can narrow it down to one that may be giving you trouble.

Ive also read that some have had trouble with shutdown if pwr management wasnt enabled in the bios during the XP installation, enabling it later didnt help, they had to re-install XP with pwr management enabled to solved the problem. (Ive never experienced this, so i cant confirm / deny it)

Hey MTDEW,

I have a similar setup like yours(same mobo).I still cant solve the shutting down problem yet.
I already flash the Expox 8k7A+, still the same. Now on the Win2k I didnt have that problem..strange.

klnyc,
All i had to do on this pc was enable Advanced Power Management in WinXP, enabling it in the bios made no difference, just enabling in XP allowed me to shut down properly.

I am using an older version of bios on that pc though, its dated 3-20-2001.

I have 3 pcs & if I remember correctly, I flashed the bios on my Epox the week I got it & there was some annoying screen that it installed during bootup, so I flashed back to the one that came with my mobo, so I am still using the original bios that was shipped with my Epox.

Now my Soyo 6BA+IV mobo in my Intel pc, i had to use an older bios to shutdown properly in XP, than the newest one I had, it seems Soyo removed the newest from their website when there were problems with it shutting down in XP.
Talk about a pain to troubleshoot!
I kept saying to myself "it cant be the bios, I have the newest one!"
I flashed to the older one & my troubles were solved.

So, for what its worth, the latest bios isnt always the most compatable. 😉
