XP won't remember passwords

Friend of mine asked me a question, and I'm stumped. He just bought a new HP computer (w/ Athlon, so it's not completely evil!) w/ XP Home edition pre-installed. He says that Outlook nor Outlook Express will remember his mail server password. And, when he has to login to websites using a l/p and clicks the remember box, IE won't remember the pw. So, I figure there is a common setting someplace telling those two programs not to remember the passwords even though you tell them to, but I have no idea where to look.

Any ideas?

Well, I think we tracked down the problem. I should have looked at Google before posting here. There were several people with the exact same problem (down to the HP computer). It involves doing some registry editing...
