XP wont re-activate the video card?

After a fresh rebuild of XPpro sp2, i have set my video card and XP not to activate the screensaver, however after leaving the PC on for a while, the monitor is turned off (even though its not set like that) and wont come out of it.

So basically i end up having to soft reset the PC.

What should i do to fix this!

Thanks

Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance.

Click on Power Options, select Turn off Monitor and set it to Never.

Screen saver and turning off the monitor are seperate.

That said I have never seen a case where the monitor won't turn back on. Can you give us your hardware details, and maybe someone who has seen this before can get a better understanding of the real problem.

also in most cases you can tap the power button to initiate windows shutdown even if you can't see rather than reset. It may take a while but it's better to try that first.
