XP won't load cdrom drivers!

'm cleaning up a frends PC, they had the usual spyware crap all over it. I've gotten rid of the spyware but the optical drives still won't show in My Computer, they show in the device manager but with an error that windows couldn't load the drives, code 39.

I've copied the driver files listed from my good PC to theirs but that didn't do anything.
anyone have any ideas of clues?

I'd delete the ATA controllers from Device Manager, reboot, and let WinXP re-detect the drives on that controller. It's worked for me before.

Even though it mentions "EZ CD Creator", it probably still applies in this situation. It sounds like the UpperFilters/LowerFilters registry keys issue, which is very common. So, follow the advice on how to resolve it by using regedit.
