XP won't let me format my hard drive

I have Win XP on a hard drive, I didn't activate it and now it won't open. Now I want to format the drive but I get the message "Drive C: does not support format" How can I format this drive?

A friend had the same problem a few days ago. As I recall, he did an FDISK using a Win98 Startup disk, then formatted as NTFS using the WinXP CD.

Have you tried booting to the XP cd, destroying all partitions, recreating them, then reformatting?

You can head over to bootdisk.com for a bootdisk if you don't have one handy

Yup. Use the Windows 98 Boot disk. I have had to do this on nuemrous friends computers.

I used a ME boot floppy and ran FDISK and then was able to format Thanks.
