XP won't let me delete something

I have a couple of files / folders that i don't use anymore, and i can't seem to get rid of them.

I have a bunch of small files that windows claims "The file or directory is currupted and unreadable", so it won't let me delete it?

and i have some folders sitting in my Recycling bin that refuse to get thrown out because, "The directory is not empty".

Is there a program that i can download that will terminate these buggers, regardless?

Ditto.

I still use good old Norton Commander for those rouge files. I boot into safe mode and run Norton commander (version is well over 15 yrs old) and it works great under XP! It also lets me delete mac files from my Novell network.
