I have a Soyo Dragon KT333 Mobo, AthlonXP 1800, 512 PC2700, Radeon 9700,45g Maxtor. While "UP"grading from 98 to XP (or fresh install) XP freezes or shuts down my monitor during install at the "Registering Components" section. The same happens for MS Win2K Pro. I have to reboot and start over for both and haven't seen the reason why. This also happens on installs for different HD's. (2 different WD 60's).
I have:
Installed from the CD AND local copy on HD (multiple times)
Used Different CD
Formatted and reformatted
"Turned off" integrated components including LAN, RAID, and Sound through
BIOS
Flashed BIOS
upgraded ALL drivers
Pulled hair out (what hair I have)
Used upgraded drivers for RAID
Banged head on wall
The only thing I've found on this is at Microsoft
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q281653) and
that's only if it's done during an unattended install. I'm not doing an
unattended install, but I wanted to try it anyway. I can't seem to locate
the doc they're talking about in the fix. Support/tools/deploy. cab. There was another that included forcing the HAL onto it but I lost that article. I'm so close to having this machine working yet, so far. I want to play!
Thanks!
Fred
*After typing this I found another possible answer that might have worked but didn't....It stated one of the ".man" files could be corrupted and to replace......did it and no good*
