Windows XP always gets stuck when trying to copy the si3114.sys (and associated driver files) off the floppy.

Let me walk you through my install first.

Insert XP cd-rom and boot from CD-rom.

Press F6 when prompted to load "3rd party raid drivers"

I insert the driver disket when prompted and select the correct driver from the 2 shown.

Setup continues and i format the HDD with NTFS.

Then when it gets to the part "Windows is copying files.." I get the error

Setup cannot copy the file: si3114.sys

I can skip this, and i receive the same error with all 4 driver files it needs to get off the FDD (the same driver files it just loaded to access the drive in the first place).

I have tried the drivers chaintech gave with the mb. I have tried the drivers off chaintech's website. I have tried the official WHQ drivers off the SI website. I have tried underclocking my RAM.

Always the same error, windows setup absolutely refuses to copy the driver files that are so obviously on the floppy (because it just loaded the drivers!)

Has anyone else worked through this error? I've done tons of searching on the topic with google and found people had the same issue with the si3112.sys not copying over, but no one ever really gave a solution to that problem either.

thanks

Simple things first.

You do have SATA set as the 'FIRST BOOT DEVICE' in the BIOS, correct?

Any other IDE drives installed?

Yes.

The only IDE device i have installed in the system is the CD-ROM drive.

I know others are experiencing this problem because i can find references to it using google groups search, but none of those threads pointed out a solution either...

Just to give an update and to document the solution i found to my problem.

I was using a custom Windows XP install set (slipstreamed in SP1 and $OEM$ directory drivers). Using this CD the windows installer will NOT read drivers off floppy.

To fix this i downloaded the Windows XP floppy disk install set from microsoft.com and created the 6 setup floppy disk's. I used these disk's to get the install going until it asked for the XP CD.

Doing this allowed the install program to install the SATA drivers off the floppy disk.

So for anyone else who runs into this problem there is your solution!
