XP Upgrade Package - Clean Install w/Only 1 HD Possible?

I've searched here on the forum but can't quite nail down whether or not I can get away with buying just the Upgrade XP Pro package instead of the full package. The machine I'm wanting to put it on is currently running Win98...and I have the OEM (Dell) "resource" disk...but it only has one hard disk in it at the moment. I may have been dreaming, but it seems I read that in order to do a clean install with the upgrade package, one needs to have at least two hard disks in the machine? Is this true?

I dont think you'll have a problem, done tons of upgrades from 98 to xp w/ one drive. The xp upgrade is going to look for a qualifing product (your 98 install) and give you a choice clean install or upgrade and as always back everything up prior to this operation.

Yeah, Xtremetechie is right. Even if you wiped the hdd you could still do a install. After Xp installs it will ask you for a win98 disc to make sure you "qualify" for using the upgrade. Only 1 hdd is neccessary. Though I would check and make sure that a Win98 disc could be used.

Thanks guys...kinda thought that was the case, but ya never know. I've got both a retail Win98 CD from another machine plus the "resource" Dell CD that came with the comp, so hopefully all should be ok.

Thanks again,
