I don't have the option to select the CPU multiplier in my bios. Is it possible for me to set the multiplier by closing certain bridges on the CPU?

Also, what stepping of XP1600 is Newegg shipping these days?

Jens' site at oc-inside.de link to interactive pages where user enters desired Multiplier and page returns pic of Multiplier bridges open/closed to suit.

http://www.beachlink.com/candjac/index.htm link to appropriate CPU model article/s which have Tables of Multipliers vs Multiplier bridges settings, but also tech info which enables user to understand what's going on.

oc-inside.de great for settings. Our site's additional marked up pics, diagrams, and tech details great for trouble shooting your manual mod failures.

Take you pick...or do both.

If you are going to bother closing a bridge just to get ONE multiplier setting, why not just close the 5 L1 bridges and be able to choose from a 6x to a 14.5??x multi??

You can unlock the XP by closing all the L1 bridges on the cpu, theres craploads of How-to's on unlocking XP processors. In fact, I just did it thursday, my lil ole 1500+ is at 1800+ with some pretty crappy cooling, waiting on more fan fun to go higher :p

Well people talk about it all the time on here, so I just kinda figured it out ;) Looking at the unlocking video on tomshardware.com gives you a pretty good idea about how to do it.

I actually bought a new XP 1500+ from Phamtastik on the forum here, it was an AGOIA, week 26 :) Currently running @ 1800+ speeds @ 166fsb.

I used:

-Sewing needle (to apply conductor)
-Rear window defogger repair kit (for conductor)
-600 grit sand paper to sand down the L1's a little bit, makes them all nice and shiny, and I assume more easily conducted through :)
-Flashlight (good light is IMPORTANT!)
-Alcohol to clean surface of chip after light sanding of the bridges
-Super glue to fill gaps between bridges
-Scotch tape to tape over bridges just for filling the gaps with super glue (I didnt tape them off individually when connecting them, just freehanded it :))
-Fine tipped scalpel to scrape between bridges after connecting them (I got a little messy, just wanted to be sure adjacent bridges werent touching each other)
-Scalpel with flat razor on it, to shave super glue flat after it dried in the gap between the bridges

BTW, Dont drop razors on your bare feet! :D Good thing it only fell from a few inches.......just nicked me ;)

I don't want you guys to get me wrong here...
I've already unlocked 1 XP1600 by ..get this...soldering all of the L1 bridges and selecting the multiplier and FSB on one of my motherboards...no problem

My other motherboard doesn't have the option to select the multiplier, so it defaults to the lowest multiplier when I close all the bridges

It also only gives the option of 100 or 133 for the FSB, which sucks

I guess what I orginally meant to ask was, can you set the FSB by closing certain bridges? or am I stuck at a max of 133 ?

OHHHHHHHH, now I get it, unlocking the XP isnt the problem, its the fact that your mobo/BIOS doesnt allow you to choose multi/fsb :) In that case, I have no clue, good luck :)

what motherboard do u have?

you will NOT be able to choose different fsb settings with bridges on the cpu itself.

but there ARE bios(es) and programs outthere that'll let u chance FSB.

SEtFSB is one I use.

I followed the link that Confused gave and it was TOO EASY! Although I'm stuck with one multiplier but I can just change it with the pencil trick in the future. :) THis is good. I've tried closing the L1 bridges but it did not work. So I just did what confused did and put the multiplier to 12.5. I'm at 1.81Ghz now. 12.5X145 = 1817Mhz. :D

I'm running the ABIT NV7M

SetFSB but from the list I do NOT see your mobo there...

when i first heard abit, i was surprised that they didnt have all those o/c features.. they usually do, so i checked abit website.. and sure enough, your mobo does not...

but there is hope, the other one you might give a try is, CPU cool, i am Not that familiar with that one, but it DOES seem to support more mobos.. good luck. :)

btw- im running 12.5 x 138 rock solid so far. wondering if i need to push it little more.

hmm.. that must be very frustrating...

kinda odd.. I always thought Abit and Asus and one of the best motherboard manufacturers out there....

i dont have any clue on what's going on with ur Asus board...

oh by the way a letter "R" was missing from the link.

Corrected.

I tried amd CPUID and for me its detecting everything as i see them in bios.
Processor:0x662
Type :0
instruction family :6
model :6
stepping: 2

only thing im guessing is u might have software that sets fsb speeds..?
if not try to run amd cpuid in safe mode and see if u get same thing.
