XP taskbar anomaly

Whenever I leave my comp idle in screensaver mode or the monitor in power saving mode for any length of time, this odd little program icon appears on my taskbar when I return. I can't get rid of it without a reboot and it doesn't show up under running processes. It's icon is that of a small yellow notepad. Any ideas what this is and how to stop it happening?

Did you check the system processes? and is it a windows loaded SS or a downloaded SS that you run when this happens? or is it all... but you should check the system processes when its not there and once it shows up check it out again and see if theres any processes running that werent or shouldnt be and then maybe the problem can be resolved..

of all the things ive lost... i miss my mind the most!!!
