I set all of the icons in the system tray to "always hide" They all keep this setting except for my network ones, the ones that show 2 little computers side by side that blink when there's activity. Everytime I restart they are changed to the "hide when inactive" setting. I change these by choosing Customize from the Task Bar and Start Menu Properties window, is there somewhere else to change these so they stay hidden?

It seems that the popular threads around here lately have been about programming and video games. I don't know of a solution to your problem, but you COULD disable the networking icons entirely through network connection properties. If you can find a program that sits in the system tray and gives you network usage info, then you could disable the built-in network icons and use the 3rd party app instead.
