XP startup free-for-all?

I've noticed when I boot up XP the icons that live in corner of the taskbar (AVG, Catalyst Control Centre, Daemon Tools, etc) load in a different order every time. i.e. sometimes one will load first, sometimes another.

So, are they all trying to load at the same time? Isn't that rotten idea for getting things done quickly?

It's not a big deal, just curious. If there was a way around it then booting up might be a bit quicker, perhaps.

I've dealt with this at work before.

Windows services do not load in a particular order after certain ones.

Like for example all the built in ones generally load in a particular order. There is a sort of startup sequence, and then its "other".

Since services are just programs, the windows scheduler handles it and it is whatever it feels like ordering it as. It should be ok as the scheduler is threaded and is pretty good at parceling things out.
