XP Start Error

I'm having a problem trying to start XP. It starts to boot and then I get a "windows root/system 32/hal.dll file missing or corupt please replace the file" error. It happened once a week ago, I rebooted and all was fine. This time I've tried to reboot it 4 or 5 times and can't get past the error.

Both times it happen I was playing Civ 3 and the game cracshed. I got out of the error reporting box and then it would reboot on it's own and the error above comes up at reboot.

Ideas?

Thanks
