XP SP3 killed my dial-up after hibernation

I held off on XP SP3 for a long time because everything worked fine. But some new software demands it. So I did the deed. Now if I come out of hibernation, I cannot access my dialup isp; must reboot first. I'm guessing it's some kind of services problem. Any help?

It sounds like I'm a computing dinosaur, but I like XP better than W7 (which I have also) and dial-up is my only affordable option in the stix. Thanks.
