OK this is what you get for listening to your Dad and installing XP over Debian or Slackware. I just got a new computer here are the stats I'm not sure if it's one of the hardware conflicting with SP2 or what

AMD athlon 64 3200+ 754 socket
ASRock combo z board
120 GB maxtor 2MB cache drive
generic 40x cdr
saphire radeon 9250 128MB
512 MB DDR400 ram

So anyways Microsoft decides to nag everyone as much as possible to install SP2, so I do. Well after I reboot the windows (loading) boot screen shows up loads for a while and then just reboots. No errors no nothing telling me what it could be. I go to safe mode, same deal. Loads a bit then reboots. So obviously it's SP2 doing it but I'm at a loss as to why.

Thanks for any input

Not sure if I'm reading this right or not but if you installed XP over linux than I am not surprised you are having issues. Usually you want XP ( or any MS OS for that matter) installed first before making a dual boot system.

Just my 2¢

Well my old computer I had Debian on it and before Debian I had Slackware.

Anyways I found out what happend. SP2 corrupted something, I hit F8 then did the selection to not restart on error. It said can't find winsrv reinstalling might fix this problem. So I did just that. I did that new option which I never tried before where you don't have to format, the cd just deletes all the windows files and reinstalls from the CD. Works great now thanks guys :X

Hi DrkSn,
I had exactly the same problem as you apart from the fact that my system started off as an XP SP1.

I dont seem to get that option of "do not restart on error" when I press F8?

If this is a fresh install of Windows, why not try slipstreaming SP2 onto your setup disc and reinstalling? This is a much cleaner way to do it (and safer too, since your computer won't be exposed to the internet unpatched).

If that's not an option, you're probably getting a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). I can analyze the memory dump for you to determine what driver is causing the issue. Check your PMs.
