I'd go for x64 O/S. I had doubts early but I am now very happy with it. It's running rock solid. All drivers (nvidia, soundcard, mouse et.c) are all 64 geniune bit versions.

There are still alot of missing wireless NIC drivers but i would not go back to 32bit. Everything of mine loads faster under 64. Just check all your Hardware manufactures site to make sure htey have 64 bit drivers before purchasing it.

Are you talking about the patch on AMD's site, i tried that one but didn't notice any seat of the pants performance, but i was to lazy to run any test.

The biggest issue I have had is print drivers. I personally use PDF and Microsoft Office Document Image Writer all the time and neither works on XP64.

I really miss that capability otherwise I have been very pleased.

One of the few niceties is that there are no 64 bit viruses (as of yet) to worry about but I use avast (free) anyway just in case.

In general 32bit code runs on XP64 so I would think most any virus would still cause damage.

I used one of the open source PDF printers on my 64 bit if that is what you are referring too. PDF creater and possibly Jaws PDF (think thats the name) worked on mine

Yea all 32bit programs run wihtout a hitch so i would not want to take a chance and not run A/V like me. I couldn't get AVG's to work right even though it says 64 bit, maybe i will have to try that other one

I tried PDF Creator but it could not install the PDF printer. Maybe a newer version can. I know that Adobe has no plans to release a fix until the next product release.

I was really shocked that Microsoft had not released a fix for the Office Document Image Printer.
