XP sp1 update problem (it keeps restarting) possibly pc anywhere related?

I just installed SP1 on my brothers machine and after the install it just restarts, after the xp loading finish's "(the blue bar on the bottom of the screen) right before the login should appear, the same happens in safe mode or if I try to go to previously working settings. I made a restore point before doing it, but is there anyway to use the recovery console to run the restore, or is there any other way to fix this as I am going back to school tomorrow and need it fixed tonight. It is a legal copy of xp, and I have seen what happens when you try to install on a corporate copy and in that case it just stops from installing the pack it doesn?t screw up the machine anyway (one of my suitemates put corporate on his Linux box so he could register it on the network, so he could get online to download the newest debian packages). Thanks. Looking at microsofts site I see that a similar problem occured if you upgraded from 98 or me with an older pc anywhere and I know that he has pc anywhere and probably hasnt run liveupdate recently, though it did work in XP.
