XP SP1 on CD?

I've been holding off on upgrading to XP, waiting for the SP1 release. I see that SP1 is available from MS for $9.95. As this is an enormous download, for myself, on dial-up this is an attractive option.

I'm wondering if MS has any plans to market XP with SP1 incorporated into it for retail sale? Would save me purchasing both.

Also, I have two computers here at home. I want to stay legal. Is the hot setup to purchase one copy and a license for a second install?

I don't think they have any intentions to integrate the install (XP + SP1) in a retail package.

As far as the two computers, if one is a desktop and one is a laptop, check the EULA (End User Liscense Agreement) as it might include a provision for installation on one desktop and one mobile device (Office, Money, and Visual Studio I believe include).

As far as a second liscense, isn't that like the same cost?

boomerang, since you haven't upgraded yet, I would suggest that you wait as I believe that MS will release a version of XP w/ the SP1 release incorporated, remember Win 98SE. Hope this helps 🙂

wjsulliv no the license is roughly two thirds the cost. Second machine is a not a laptop.

Zim Hosein 98SE is exactly what I was thinking about. I bought 98, and then ended up buying 98SE.

If you download the 133MB update from Microsoft, you can slipstream it yourself provided you have an existing XP install CD. I made such a CD this weekend and it installed flawlessly. Well, almost flawlessy (I'll start another thread for that). 🙂

Well go ahead and start the thread. I go on vacation for a week and now I've got a new term to learn. "Slipstream", first time I've heard that one. So much to learn.............
