I downloaded SP 3 on my pC and all went well. I am currently in the process of downloading SP 3 on my wife's PC. I have closed all running programs including AV and Firewall software. Approx 60% completed (according to the progress bar), it appears as though the download is frozen because the progress bar has not moved for approx. 1 hour.

Is that normal or has something gone wrong and, if so, what do you recommend?

Thank you very much for your help!

Try downloading another, different file, see if that 'kick starts' the sp3 download.

(your downloading the sp3 network install?)

yes, downloading from Microsoft Updates. By "Try downloading another, different file", do you mean re-start her PC and then try donloading SP3 again? Its been several hours now and still has not moved. Nothing else is responding so I think I need to reboot. You agree?

Just cancel the download and try again. Sounds like the connection to the download server was interrupted somehow.

I had my system go through an unrecoverable blue screen when I installed SP3 on a working system. I slipstreamed SP3 onto an XP Pro installation, nuked my system, and it's working fine. If you DLed it from a reputable place, then it's probably some software that is currently installed on your system that is causing the problem. I'd backup and nuke the whole thing, saves time and the headache that comes from some installs.

ok, I installed sp3 last week and now I can't install security updates. It trys, but they fail. I read that sp3 should be installed under safe mode, after all other updates have been installed. is this correct? Should I uninstall sp3 and start over?
