XP Software to Simulate Vista's...

When software tries to install, Vista will pop up and and ask you for permission to continue. It also apparently has protected directories set up, which require permission to copy files into them. I know a lot of people disliked this feature, but I personally rather liked it.

I'm sure there is software available for XP that does something very similar to this. The problem is, I don't really know how to find it, because I'm not sure what this type of security protection is called. Can someone recommend what to look for? Or better yet, does someone want to recommend some software to me?

I think a lot of AntiVirus suites have stuff like this, but in my experience a lot of the popular ones are incredibly bloated and have really poor performance.

Any ideas?

Just run as a limited account, by default Program Files shouldn't be writable except by admin users.

Yeah, here you go: http://www.mechbgon.com/build/Limited.html

As suggested there, make a new Admin account, then convert your existing account to Limited. Give the Admin account a password.

Once that's done, you can run any programs or installers as an Admin when you want to, by right-clicking them while holding the Shift key, and choosing "Run As" from the right-click menu. Give it the Admin credentials and it runs at Admin level.
