I'm upgrading to XP and I need to know my SMC IP address. How do I know the difference between my computers and the router. I used another computer to clone the address and no longer have that computer.....

Well, you've got several simple issues to deal with.
Your DHCP configured router will automatically assign addresses to each computer on your network.
You will know the difference between your computers because while you must assign all of your computers to the same WORKGROUP, you will give each computer a different NAME.

Your router will typically assign itself as 192.168.0.1, and then each computer a unique address such as: 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3, etc.

It will be helpful to turn OFF the WinXP firewall, at least untill you have your network up and running.

I don't get that.

You don't input a router address onto a printer.
Is your printer attached to one of the comps and set up to be shared, or do you have the printer attached to a print server?

I think you're asking how to configure your print server?

Go to SMC's website. They have documentation on how to do so for all OSes.

Your router IP address would be your Gateway when you go START > RUN > CMD > IPCONFIG

My default IP on my SMC was 192.168.2.1, I know other models are different.

What you do is go to your Control Panel > Printers > Add Printer
- Select Local Printer but uncheck the Autodetect Printer and Next
- Create a new port, type of port is Standard TCP/IP port
- Printer name or IP address, enter your router's IP address (i.e. 192.168.2.1) That's the same number from the Gateway field when you used the ipconfig command
- The box below should automatically be filled out for you, Next
- Choose a custom Device Type and go to Settings
- Choose LPR, under queue name, you need to read the manual to find out the exact name (i.e. lp, lpt1)
- You might have to check off LPR Byte Counting
- Just choose your printer drivers and you should be able to figure it out from there
