XP slow down_not all but viewing

Blinking icons on the desktop, WinExplorer folders and previews, Start menu a long response, you will see an empty menu without program names, the ones beyond 3seconds. I went through it Hijack, msconfig / programs in the background after boot, tried to uninstall the antivirus.
Maybe should I delete and restore the swap file?
thanks for the helpful advice

Launch System Restore, and restore your computer back to the date it was working fine.
Disabling System Restore improve performance as well. I suggest you disable.

To OP, I suggest you jump over to Windows Server 2003. This is one bad ass OS. I only have 1GB RAM on my laptop but and is flyin' fast with Server 2003. Never had to mess with system cache nor page file settings. Just defrag every once a while and you are set. It "performs like" a system with 4~ 6GB of RAM.. My HTPC can shut itself off right after loading windows in a few seconds. It only has 1GB too. That's what I call speed.... some serious stuff.
