XP Shuts down too fast

Every time I Shut Down via the Start Menu, every program throws an error.
Most of them I have to hit the End Now button.

After I hit End Now and Ok about 40 times, my machine shuts down.

Is there some registry value or something that I can delay the Shutdown sequence to allow all the programs to close prior to Shut Down?

I really don't want to rebuild the machine.

If you don't already have it, try installing User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (UPHClean):

While not directly the solution or fix for the specific problem you are having (which is actually not very specific), it might help indirectly. Also, I've seen some malware/spyware/adware that caused a similar cascade of application unload errors after pressing shutdown/restart.
