I think this may be a glitch in XP from what i`m finding out however, I though it couldn`t hurt to post it here and pick everyones brain a bit. I have a new Dell desktop, Win XP.......1.7 GHz......384 MB DDR SDRAM (upgraded from 128MB).......60GB HD . Anymore, probably 90% of the time when shutting down the system, I find it hangs. I do the normal shutdown, start, turn off computer etc. , then I get a screen that says "saving settings" then "shutting down" but it dosen`t shut down ! I have to manually push the power button on the computer or turn the power off manually. After doing so, everything starts up once again fine as if nothing happened. I tried everything so far. I went into microsofts site...read all the stuff in there.....downloaded the service pack with all the fixes...tried different spy programs designed to eliminate so called security problems, you name it. Nothing has worked so far. Just now I went into Dells site on line and read everything there. Seems there must be a problem with others also because they say that if the system dosen`t shut down to turn it off by means of the power button on the tower ! Does anyone have any suggestions or do I have to live with this "glitch".
