XP Service Pack 2 release date

As one of the MSN software beta testers, I got this email today dictating a "mandatory" upgrade of MSN beta software to the latest release. The interesting blurb is why the release is necessary:

"What are the changes in Beta 7?

The most significant change in Beta 7 is that Windows XP Service Pack 2 will now be supported."

It also said that testers could not sign on after Feb 5 unless they had installed this mandatory upgrade.

Logically, then, it would appear that Feb 5 is the day or very near the day the new XP service pack will hit the streets in final form.

I haven't seen an actual release date posted elsewhere, but if so, I guess I missed it. And yes, I know the beta has been out for some time.

heheh...is that logic in general or MY logic? I'm only guessing because if the service pack is not going to be released soon thereafter (2/5), what would be the point of "testing" a newer beta if it's major change provided support for something that it could not be tested with? Make sense? Anyway, it's only a guess. Sneaky ones, they are, that MS...

I thought beta wasn't scheduled for release until this upcoming summer? Maybe they want to move it up to get out that 64 bit version of windows 🙂

Means that Beta 6 will not work with XP SP2, only Beta 7. Meaning that when XP SP2 is released, you cannot use Beta 6 or whatever version came before 7. Or it might have limited function or not supported at all.
